An incredible offering from Taylor Guitars' new Builder's Reserve shop and limited to 50 pieces, here is one of the Liberty Tree T5 Acoustic/Electric Guitars. If you remember the Liberty Tree Acoustic Guitars from back in 2002, you'll be aware of the historical relevance of this wood, as well as the artistic beauty of the series!
Back in 2002, Taylor Guitars released 400 acoustic guitars built from the last standing “Liberty Tree,” which had recently been brought down by severe weather and age. This Tulip Poplar on the campus of St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland was one of 13 Liberty Trees adopted by each of the original colonies, and the longest surviving specimen by many years. For nearly 400 years it bore witness to the changes America would undertake, from a sparsely populated New World to a nation struggling for independence, to the modern nation it saw as recently as 1999. All the while, it was a beacon, a meeting place for the revolutionaries standing against the British, a podium for key speeches and a significant player in both celebrations and civil hardships.
Bob Taylor acquired leftover wood from this exact tree and built the original 400 guitars to great enthusiasm and acclaim for their historical relevance, incredible beauty, and other-worldly tone. Once finished, he was left with about 50 pieces large enough for a guitar back, but nothing else – so they sat for 6 years. In the meantime, Taylor’s revolutionary crossover Acoustic-Electric T-5 was designed to equal acclaim. In a flash of inspiration, it was realized this guitar would be a perfect vehicle for the remaining Liberty Tree Tulip Poplar sets. So they set out to design something special – as you can see from the photos. What beauty!
Limited to 50, with one for each state in the nation, we at Steilberg String Instruments are proud to offer the North Carolina Liberty Tree T5. Check back for specs, or give us a call.
