"Saw it at the NAMM show, and just couldn't say no" - it's a bit of a personal mantra these days. But what can we do when some our favorite builders keep building in such awesome new directions? If there was anything in the world cooler than this guitar, we're not sure we could wrap our minds around it.......
Luthier Jayson Bowerman, who has been assistant to Master Luthier Kim Breedlove for a decade or so now was challenged by guitarist Ed Gerhard to build a new Weissenborn-style guitar for him to play on the road. Ed's aged original Weissenborn had gotten to the point of losing it's dependability because of it's condition. Jayson spent a lot of time with Ed's original Weissenborn - guitars which are famous for their tone and vibe, though notoriously temperamental and often times frustrating due to antiquated building practices. Jayson built several models, matching top graduations, trying different bracings, and adding a few distinctly Breedlove attributes. The result is an awesomely modern and stable version of the original Wessenborns.
Boasting all Solid Koa back sides and top (just like a Hawaiian steel guitar oughta be, doggone it), The Breedlove Lap Steel sounds woody and deep with clarity and a haunting sustain. Built like a traditional lap steel, with a hollow neck (meaning the body of the guitar actually extends to near the headstock) it maintains a lot of sound in a relatively small package. But if you need more volume for a performance, we've taken care of it by adding the LR Baggs M1 Active soundhole pickup.
There are not many of these and currently there is a significant wait. Better act now ya'll!
