We picked the Cocobolo for the specific back and sides of this guitar some months back. Usually most Cocobolo you see is slab-cut, yielding a piece of wood that is less stable and less likely to produce the most powerful sound possible. What excited us so much was that this piece was one of the most dead-on quartersawn piece of Cocobolo we've seen. As a guitar, it's truly marvelous! Producing a deep rich tone with the highs and raw power of Rosewood with an airy subtle overtone all it's own, this guitar would cut heads at a jam, fill up space for a singer/songwriter or do just about anything you could throw at it with ease.
The perfectly quartered and exceptionally beautiful Adirondack Top adds some heft to the sound and keeps the volume comin', though looking extremely uniform in color (that is, without the colored streaky-ness normally associated with the species). It features all ebony fittings, a bone nut and bone saddle, as well as Adirondack Spruce braces on the inside.
Further custom options on this guitar are the attractive snowflake (or slotted diamond) inlays, and an L.R. Baggs Dual Element pickup for the ability to be heard (and sound GOOD!) in any situation.
The mahogany neck is incredibly dense and also quartered dead-on. When you've got such a powerful neck, top and back with adirondack bracing and a bone nut and saddle like this, you've got quite a guitar.
And that's what this is.
